Subject: C vs B footjoints
Hello Flautists and Doublers (I count myself in the latter category).
I have been playing sax and clarinet for over 50 years with the occasional foray
into the flute. About 5 years ago I started to practice the flute exclusively
and have been glad to find the sax always there when I reach for it. Over the
years I have always experimented with equipment, barrels for the clarinet and a
LOT of modifications on the sax. I also make my own mouthpieces. I find myself
bemused over footjoints. Sometimes I like a C, sometimes I go for the B. I
have even made a keyless B footjoint which is also the occasional right answer.
I am interested in people's actual experience with the differences between the
two. When do you like to use which, what do you percieve, what do listeners
hear? I have C and B footjoints for most of my flutes and am still shy of any
definitive conclusions. In fact, compared to the sax and clarinet, I find it
difficult to come up with any generalities that last more than a day or so.
Any thoughts and insights from the congregation would be appreciated.
